Why should I go for Solar PV System?

There are a few important reasons why you should go for Solar PV System:

  • Generate your own electricity from a renewable source
  • Significantly reduce or even eliminate your electricity bill
  • Have access to this electricity for the next 25 to 30 years, the lifetime of a Solar PV installation
  • Utilize your readily available open rooftop space
  • Prices for Solar PV systems are at historical lows
  • Electricity tariffs are increasing 5% p.a. on average
  • Commercial and Industrial customers get Accelerated Depreciation (AD) benefit of 40%; domestic, schools and hospitals get 30% subsidy.
  • ROIs for Commercial & Industrial establishments are currently less than 3 to 4 years, on average
  • ROIs are even lower with a Business loan option

What System capacity will you be setting up?

We will be able to determine that after conducting a detailed site survey at your facility. This will include a rooftop survey for:

  • Shadow free area available
  • Type and Condition of Roof
  • Orientation of rooftop with natural South direction

In general, we can setup a 1 to 1.2 kWp system in a 100 sq. ft. shadow-free area. In addition, we need to determine design parameters such as cable length required, meter location, space for mounting smart inverter, etc.

What additional information do you require?

We will also require a copy of your latest electricity bill, so that we can check the sanctioned load, existing average monthly consumption and the average tariff per unit. Based on this, we will be able to design the ideal Solar PV system for your facility

What is the maximum capacity that I can setup at my facility?

Our installation will be Grid- connected. As per Discom rules in MH, we are allowed to install 80% of sanctioned load for Net- metering purposes, till a limit of 1 MW. We can definitely install a higher capacity, but Net metering benefits beyond 1MW will not be applicable.
We will only be limited by feasible shadow free area in your premises to setup a Solar PV system of desired capacity.

How much energy can a ‘xyz’ kWp system generate?

We need to consider the number of units being generated by Solar PV system. On average, 1 (one) kWp system will generate 4 units per day, on a yearly basis. So ‘xyz’ kWp system will generate:
Average Monthly Solar Units Generated = ‘xyz’ * 4 * 30
Average Annual Solar Units Generated = ‘xyz’ * 4 * 365
The 4 units is taken as average over a year. Generation is highest in Winters and Summers, when you can get upto 5.5 to 6 units as well and lower during Monsoons. Many competitors assume generation to be 4.5 or even 5 units, but that will be for lower number of days across a year and hence is misleading.

What benefits do I get from the Discom?

The prime benefit for you will be a significant reduction in your electricity bill. While the Solar PV system will provide you a number of units as calculated above, the rest of your requirements can be met from your existing grid connection. You will only need to pay the difference of Grid consumed units and Solar generated units, which will be clearly mentioned in your monthly bills.

Further, with Net- metering policy, if your facility generates more units than you consume, the balance is returned back to the grid (via the bi-directional meter, or Net-meter). You are financially compensated by the Discom for this returned power, based on a fixed price per unit, on an annual basis.

What support do I get from Government?

Commercial and Industrial customers get an Accelerated Depreciation (AD) benefit of 40%.
Domestic consumers, schools and hospitals on the other hand get a 30% subsidy from MNRE. Some new policies supporting Solar PV installations do get introduced by central and state governments from time to time, which is industry- dependant.

I face regular power cuts/ load shedding. Can the Solar PV system help me?

The Solar PV system is broadly categorized into 2 types: Grid- connected and Off-grid. Grid- connected systems are synchronized with the existing grid connection, and hence do not require any energy- storage or backup. Any excess energy generated is returned back to the grid, this effectively provides seasonal storage on the grid itself.

Off-grid systems feature a battery backup in addition to standard components, for storage purpose. These systems are typically setup in places with no grid connectivity, or extremely poor electricity supply, or for applications that only require short period of usage, such as agricultural pumps, street lights, advertisement hoardings etc.
However Off-grid systems with battery backup are costlier to setup and maintain as well, as the batteries need to be looked after and changed as per their life. In places where load shedding is an issue, DG sets are more commonly used as backups. During a power cut however, Solar PV systems would also be cut off so as to protect any workers repairing power lines.

What is your X- factor?

We, OHMS Energy Pvt. Ltd. are MNRE registered Vendors and hence all our supplied components are only MNRE approved- including the Solar panels and the inverters. We also will be using only premium and trusted quality products for cables, junction boxes, lightning arrestor, etc. Importantly, our mounting structures, if used, will be 80 micron Hot Dip Galvanized GI type, which being corrosion resistant ensures long life of the entire installation.
Our background with several executed projects in Energy Transmission and Distribution (T&D) also means that we have extensive experience in design, procurement, and setting up of Energy systems, specifically, a Solar PV system, and good experience in working with Discoms. That is why we have been able to help several customers setup Solar PV systems at their facilities, in a very short time.

For Industrial and commercial applications, we will be using solar panels from Canadian Solar, one of the Top- three Solar PV players globally, based out of Canada and NASDAQ listed. Their panels have been observed to be superior in quality backed by their ISO certified QA/QC lab, and have high panel efficiencies- approx. 17%, with cell efficiency of approx. 20%. The panels are also lightweight, weighing just 22.4 kg per panel, significantly lighter than competitors.

What is the costing of the Solar PV system?

We being an EPC company will be executing the Solar PV system on a turnkey basis. The only requirement from your side is your approval for going ahead with utilizing your space. The costing of the
project will include Detailed design, Procurement, Installation, Commissioning, Discom approval for Net- metering, Application for subsidy if any, Testing and Final Handover of Solar PV system. After handover, we will be able to monitor your Solar PV system online, and will be able to support you with maintenance of the system as well with AMCs. The prices vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, and we will be able to give highly competitive prices to ensure quick returns on investment for you, with the best quality of components.
We also have a tie up with Axis Bank for availing Business loans, which is a good financing alternative as it enables almost immediate returns on investment given that the EMIs will be much lower than your current electricity bill itself.
